Venerable

Fr. Tomás Morales Pérez

Fr. Tomás Morales, S.J. encouraged a way of sanctity in the Church that revitalizes to the baptismal commitment of the laity, making them more aware of their evangelizing mission in these temporal realities.

Venerable Fr. Tomás Morales, S.J.

Born in Macuto (Venezuela) on October 30, 1908. He received a careful education in the bosom of his family. In Madrid, he studied at the School of the Jesuits and later Law at Central University of Madrid where he obtained the Extraordinary Award. He received his doctorate in Bologna.

At 23 years old, he abandoned his promising future and entered the Society of Jesus in Belgium. He was ordained a priest on May 13, 1942 in Granada. He consecrated his priesthood with a prophetic vision to animate the laity, convinced of the precious gift that they acquire in their baptism and of their enormous possibilities as coworkers in the mission of the Church. Thousands of hours dedicated to spiritual direction and more than 500 Spiritual Exercises retreats give testimony to the radicality of his devotion to God and to men.

The fruit of this self-giving: the founding of two Secular Institutes, the Crusaders of Mary, male and female institutes, the public association of lay faithful Homes of Saint Mary and the Militia of Saint Mary, an apostolic movement for youth and young people. They all offer a strong evangelizing dynamism with two main objectives: the youth and families around the whole world. Venerable Fr. Tomás Morales S.J. died in Madrid on October 1, 1994, on the feast of St. Therese of the Child Jesus.
